Water Exercise Technology:
Introduction to the Principles of Aquatic Exercise and Rehabilitation

This interactive online course is designed for the beginner and intermediate healthcare and fitness professional interested in incorporating aquatic exercise into patient and client program design.

The basic concepts and principles essential to aquatic exercise programming are presented, along with discovery exercises developed to help you realize the versatility of water and how to effectively design a progressive program. Simple and fun independent pool activities allow you to experience the principles first hand.

The instructor explains interesting, complex concepts in an easy to understand manner and applies them to real-life examples. Thought-provoking interactive questions and answers related to the clinic setting are incorporated into the course text. You will also have the opportunity to use the class Discussion Board, where students and the instructor can post comments and responses.

This course provides the foundation you need to design programs for people of all abilities, from the elderly to elite athletes.

Burdenko Method Certification

The Burdenko Method is a unique, innovative system for rapid rehabilitation, conditioning, training, and injury prevention. It has been developed and refined by Dr. Igor Burdenko, Ph.D. over a period of forty years in both Russia as well as the United States. Many individuals, among them Olympic athletes, world-class ballet dancers, seriously disabled individuals, elderly persons and young children, have benefited from this original and extraordinarily effective system.

The Burdenko Method uses a unique combination of water and land exercises to enhance conditioning, increase neurophysiologic efficiency and heal injuries. This is an active land and water program. All participants will engage in water and land exercises, and will practice teaching others how to perform the exercises.

Beth Scalone PT, DPT, OCS is a certified Master instructor for the Burdenko institute and offers Part One and Part Two of the Certification at North County Water and Sports Therapy Center in San Diego. You may also arrange to have Beth come to your facility to provide onsite certification.
